Shadow Fight 2 Underworld Guide: How Raids, Keys, Dan and Clans Actually Work
You tap around the map after a story fight and spot a mode that looks nothing like the rest of the game. Other players are in it. A boss has a shield with thousands of points. A timer is ticking. And the game never really explains what you are supposed to do.
That mode is the Underworld, also called Raids. It is the multiplayer side of Shadow Fight 2, and it runs on different rules from story fights. Gear level does not carry you the same way. Most perks switch off. And a raid is a team job first, a one on one fight second. Once you grasp that, the whole mode clicks.
Most raid pages just give you a boss table and stop. This guide explains the key chain, what Dan unlocks, and the strategy that clears shields.
What Is the Underworld in Shadow Fight 2?
The Underworld is the online multiplayer mode of Shadow Fight 2. You team up with other players to take down huge bosses called Eternals, ancient beings who woke up after the Gates of Shadows were opened. It is completely optional. You do not need it to finish the story.
Teamwork is the whole point. The team first breaks the boss shield together, inside a time limit. Only then does each player get a final one on one fight, called Finishing. Lose that fight and you can retry it until you win, as long as the shield phase was cleared. Raids also need an internet connection. Story acts work offline, but duels and raids do not, so check your connection first if the mode will not load.
How to Unlock the Underworld
You can enter after you defeat Needle, Lynx’s third bodyguard in Act 1. Tap the raid icon at the bottom right of the map and you are in.
First entry asks you to pick a nickname. This catches new players out, so read it twice. It can only use Latin letters and numbers, must be 3 to 10 characters long, with no spaces, and once you confirm it you cannot change it. Pick something short you will still like in a year, because it follows you into every raid, clan and leaderboard.
Do not expect to star straight away. Ranged weapons unlock after Lynx, magic after Hermit, and both add a lot of raid damage. If you are still in Act 1, treat early raids as learning runs.
How a Raid Actually Works
Every raid follows the same shape. First, the team gathers. Player counts grow with difficulty: Volcano needs 4, Megalith 5, Fungus 6, Vortex 7. Once enough players join, the raid starts.
Second, the shield phase. The boss has a fixed shield, and the team has a time limit to break it. Volcano’s shield is 1,757 points, with 5 minutes and 20 seconds. Each fight in this phase is a single 45 second round, not the usual 99 seconds. Your damage chips away at the shared shield, then the next round starts. If time runs out first, the raid fails.
Third, Finishing, with one surprise rule: you must deal a minimum amount of damage to qualify for Finishing and rewards. Hiding while others work does not pay. Equipment level and stats matter less in raids than in story fights. Almost no perks work, except Enlightenment. Eternals are immune to Stun, and later fights add random challenge style rules each round.
Raid Keys: How You Get Them and Why You Run Out
Every Eternal needs its own key, and the key chain is what new players understand last. You start with Volcano keys. Beating Volcano earns keys for the next boss, beating that boss earns keys for the one after, and so on up the chain.
Volcano is the only boss whose keys refill alone: if you hold fewer than 5 at a season’s end, your stock refills to 5 next season. Every other key must be earned by beating Eternals, won from daily quests, found in the Mystery Box, or bought with gems. Volcano keys cost 5 gems, Megalith keys 10, Vortex keys 20, so buying your way up gets expensive fast.
So do not waste keys on a raid joined half asleep or on a bad connection. Do not hoard them forever either. Keys for a boss you have outgrown only help if you still want its rewards. Event bosses use their own keys during limited time events, and those keys are useless after the event ends.
All Raid Bosses by Tier
Numbers below are normal mode shield and time limits. Power Mode, playable only through a clan, uses stronger bosses with better rewards.
Tier 1: The First Floor
Volcano is first: hardened magma, fiery hair, teleports, controls fire, fights with Ornamental Sabers. Dan 1, 1,757 shield, 5:20, 4 players. Megalith is next: living stone and crystal, causes earthquakes, fights with Coral Prickles. Dan 1, 5,121 shield, 10:50, 5 players. He has no perks or enchantments, which sounds easy until his speed and aggression make up for it. Fungus follows: toxic, spreading corruption, Two-handed Cudgel. Dan 1, 9,503 shield, 12:40, 6 players. Vortex closes the floor: ruthless warden, Silver Glaive, fish as ranged weapons. Dan 3, 11,533 shield, 12:40, 7 players.
Tier 2 and Tier 3
Deeper Eternals get smarter, and fights add random rules each round. Fatum: Dan 4, 8,473 shield, 8:40, 5 players. Arkhos: Dan 5, 8,893 shield, 8:10, 6 players. Hoaxen: Dan 6, 12,639 shield, 8:10, 6 players.
Tier 3 is the deepest original layer. Karcer: Dan 8, 10,473 shield, 5:00, 6 players. Drakaina: Dan 9, 12,513 shield, 7:00, 6 players. Tenebris, the architect at the realm’s heart: Dan 10, 14,377 shield, 7:30, 5 players. After beating Tenebris you choose: turn back from the portal, or enter it. Turning back locks Tier 4 until you beat him again and choose differently. Entering opens Tier 4, so do not pick Turn Back by accident.
Tier 4: The Immortals World
Tier 4 sits in a futuristic dimension beyond the portal, and its bosses are Immortals, not Eternals. All need Dan 10. Gatekeeper: 11,001 shield, 5:00, 4 players. Saturn: 12,501 shield, 5:00, 4 players. The Blackness: 13,477 shield, 7:30, 4 players. Stalker: 16,911 shield, 9:20, 4 players. Event bosses also appear on the first floor at Halloween, Christmas and New Year, but treat them as a bonus, not your main path.
Dan Explained: The Rank That Unlocks Bosses
Dan is the Underworld level system, from Dan 1 to Dan 10. You earn rating points in raids across a season, and enough points bring a Dan promotion at season’s end, plus extra rewards.
Dan is a gate, not just a badge. If a boss is greyed out, check Dan before assuming you lack a key. You may hold the key and still be locked out by rank. Climbing is simple but slow: raid regularly, deal real damage every round, and finish daily quests. Rating rewards consistency across a season, not one huge raid.
Clans: Why Joining One Changes Everything
You can raid solo, but a clan makes the mode far easier and more rewarding. You fight with people you know, share tactics, and gather a team faster. Clan members can create clan raids from the chat tab, and the creator can cancel a raid or kick players while the team gathers. Best of all, clans unlock Power Mode: stronger bosses with better rewards, playable only through a clan.
A clan holds up to 40 members, and you can only join one at a time. Your clan rating resets to zero on joining, though your personal rating is unaffected. Some clans require a minimum best season rating, so a rejection is usually a rating gate, not a bug. Search from the chat tab or the shield icon at the top right of the map, and pick an active clan over a big dead one.
Seasons, Rewards and Daily Quests
A season lasts 3 days and ends at 02:00 UTC. Rewards depend on your rating score and league place: small and medium Charges of Darkness, raid keys, and a few gems. Top 5 finishers also get a chance at a random Monk’s Set item, enchanted with Tempest Rage. Top 100 players earn a banner by their nickname.
Daily Quests are the cheapest rating points in the mode, and most players ignore them. You can hold up to three at once. Tasks are random: survive a round, deal critical damage, land a 5 or 8 hit combo, deal set damage, hit with magic or ranged weapons, or win raids. Harder tasks pay more, in rating points plus charges or keys. You can replace one quest a day, and a finished quest takes 20 hours to refresh unless you pay gems. New seasons refresh all quests, even unfinished ones.
Best Gear, Enchantments, Charges and Elixirs for Raids
Bring enchantments, not just a high level weapon. Since gear level and stats matter less in raids, an enchanted weapon you play well with beats a stronger one you play badly with. Fast weapons usually feel best, because they land lots of hits inside a 45 second round.
Frenzy is the most talked about raid enchantment. It rewards aggressive play, and many veterans put it on weapon, ranged weapon and magic. But it only pays if you trigger it. If you play cautiously, Bleeding or Time Bomb may serve you better, since they trigger even on blocked hits. Lifesteal is much weaker in raids: surviving longer at low damage does not break a shield. In Tier 3, many players switch armor and helm to Damage Absorption or Regeneration. Remember: Stun does nothing to Eternals, and perks do almost nothing in raids except Enlightenment. For Forge choices, see our best enchantments guide, best weapons guide and best perks guide.
Charges of Darkness deal direct boss damage and ignore debuffs, making them your best emergency tool. Minor: 72 to 88 damage. Medium: 488 to 551. Large: 990 to 1,071. Save medium and large charges for hard bosses, and for moments when the shield is nearly broken. A large charge wasted on a winning Volcano raid is gone; the same charge with a few hundred shield points left can save the raid. Elixirs last one round, boosting magic recharge, reflecting damage, stopping knockdowns, or healing, so use one when a round rule is nasty, not on every round.

Final Word
Underworld looks complex, but it is one loop: earn a key, gather a team, break the shield together, finish the boss, score rating points, climb Dan, unlock the next boss. Do daily quests, join an active clan, save big charges for shields that need them, and stay aggressive inside those short rounds.
Start with Volcano, learn the rhythm there, and let the key chain pull you up tier by tier. The bosses get harder, but so does your team.
